Stunningly clear and clean on the nose, the 2014 Neuenberg Fass 17 from the south-west exposed Ayler Neuenberg (which has significantly lower night temperatures but morning fogs), is a highly concentrated, lush and sweet, yet also pure, pineapple-flavored Riesling made with 10 percent "perfect botrytis" berries. Going to be bottled with 15 grams of residual sugar, as Florian Lauer says, this is a beautiful medium-dry Riesling, which I can't recommend to buy earlier than today. This wine, of which 1,700 bottles will go into the market in July/August, is one of the Best Buys of the estate and will age for ages.

Since Florian Lauer was nearly out of stock with his 2013s, he poured me tank samples of 2014, which are ready to be bottled and shipped very soon. As many of his colleagues, he is very happy with the quality of 2014 whose wines offer significantly ripe, golden-yellow Riesling aromas whereas in 2013 citrus fruit and apple aromas were the Leitmotiv.
