Sourced in the Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr, the 2014 Brauneberger Riesling Trocken 'J' is very clear and offers lovely, fine and elegant slate and some brazil nut aromas. Intense and piquant on the palate, this is a very elegant and characterful Riesling with a lingering salinity and grip. Still very young, this wine would benefit from being aerated.

"We doubled our harvest team in 2014," says Oliver Haag. "We selected in the vineyards and again in the grape container, because the skins were already very thin and the juice was already running out of the grapes when they came onto the press. Thus, we did not macerate our grapes in 2014 as long as in the former years and pressed straight." Haag also racked the wines earlier from the full lees onto the fine lees (in April), whereas the 2015 will age longer on the full lees again. "We did this to keep the finesse in the 2014s," and that's exactly what the 2014 Rieslings from Fritz Haag are: bright, clear, elegant and finesse-full. I haven't tasted them so good for years. These are stunning, refined and terroir-driven wines, although Brauneberg again was a hotspot of the disaster in terms of rainfall. Haag's harvest team has done a great, great job. It's one of the finest Riesling collections from the Mosel: 2014.
